About Sankalp

Sankalp Volunteer Programs India

Introduction
The literary meaning of the Hindi word SANKALP in English is Take a Pledge. A pledge to make with people from all parts of the world by SANKALP and in turn a promise with Sankalp by the people to create a unique and different world by way of turning the entire population harmonious and helpful to each other through taking parts in the programs concluded by Sankalp.

Today; Sankalp is a well established organization working with overall development of several communities in the most isolated areas of India. The organization is active in the socio-economic, cultural development of the society especially for the rural poor and needy children and women with a view to serve more targeted population in various areas.

Our Thrust Areas
Education - Sankalp wants that all children should have the right to a good-quality basic education! In particular, since we consider children to be the most important agents of change. By working with the children, we can change the habits of the past, deal with the present and look into the future. Bringing the children to school is an important step to break the ongoing circle of poverty. To be able to work with the children, we also have to work with their parents. We aim to educate them and raise awareness about the importance of sending their children to school.

Health - Every man, woman and child has the right to a healthy life. The healthy life of a child starts already in its mother’s womb, as the Chinese saying, ‘When a child is born it is already nine months old’ also indicates. We therefore believe that to ensure a child is healthy we must care for the pregnant woman and make sure she learns how to take care of herself and her child. Organization is also focusing on the health of the older child. We make sure they get the necessary vaccinations and that their parents are well informed about hygiene and safe food preparation.

Vision
Sankalp visualizes a society where all people - no matter sex, caste or creed are treated equal; where all people have access to education and health facilities; and where everybody has the right to a sustainable livelihood.

Mission
As a non-profit organization, Sankalp strives to create a world in which all people understand, respect, and support one another. SANKALP provides global network of leaders and volunteers fosters, cross-cultural understanding and addresses shared challenges to unite the world in a community beyond barriers. The underlying principle of our programs is the concept of Relational Diplomacy -- recognizing that the relationship between people of diverse backgrounds is the basic building block for uniting the world. Sankalp’s innovative programs are designed to expose our common human bonds, generate respect and appreciation for our cultural, racial, and religious diversity, and enrich lives of our neighbors worldwide.

Our Social Initiates

General Education I
Though there exist many institutions including Government organizations engaged in the sector of education to promote education and make the new generation literate. But with every institution in the sector of education there exist a number of problems and the one is scarcity of teaching staff to cope up with the growing population. The scarcity of teachers could be noticed in primary level schools run by local Government in rural areas. Since the very base on which progressive higher education is dependent on primary education and it’s a strong educational foundation is of immeasurable importance to the social development of any community. Therefore to assist the teaching staff in Government Primary Schools in rural and remote areas. We decided to take help of international volunteers so that solid base of education at primary level is constituted and the children are prepared to accept challenge of higher education fearlessly in future.

General Education II
In and around Indian cities many communities not possessing own land and dwellings are residing in temporary tents/huts by the roadsides. These communities being forest dependent are now leading miserable lives and making their ways to major cities in hope of survival giving rise to road side dwellings. The children often roam aimlessly with or without work in the streets, therefore they are called Street Children. The ill-fated children are also forced to follow footsteps of their elders. We opened a school near one of such Basti aiming at to motivate the street dweller parents to send their wards to school run by us.

Orphan and Mentally Challenged Children
The rigid social customs are the main source of orphanage rise. The carnal appetite is a natural phenomenon of living beings. Not getting the right match at right time for a girl or a boy lacking sex education promotes illicit relations between opposite sex. Such illicit relations give birth to a child not lawfully acceptable to society. Secondly; if a girl is raped against her will also produce a child not acceptable to society. Some time a child borne with certain mental or physical disabilities is also not acceptable to parents. All such off-springs are mercilessly thrown at doorsteps of orphanage.  Since all such children are creation of God and are a part of this universe, they deserve similar love, affection and proper care as our own children do. Therefore we take the help of international volunteers to assist the orphanage staff in discharge of their duties. This serves the dual purpose; one- the children get much of love, affection, right care and another- more and more lovers of mankind are accumulated.

Day Care Centers
The Aanganbaris in India are known as day care centers. Aanganwaris in rural areas have been created by the government to take care of the children from their early childhood. Day Care Center (Anganbari) programs are implemented in villages. The centers are responsible for providing play way learning environment to the young ones and to look after their health and hygiene. The day care centers in rural areas often equipped with minimal resources and are often under-funded, under-staffed, and poorly managed. As a result, the community looses confidence in day care centers, failing to make use of its resources. Mothers and children receiving services are either provided with little or with no attention and care.

Physical Education
India has very less number of sports development coaching centers and these available centers are only in selected cities and a very few schools are conducting and promoting sports development activities. But in the rural areas; schools are completely far away from this type of coaching & centers. In these areas mostly schools are governed by State Government. So, due to lack of financial resources schools do not teach or develop sports. Therefore most children do not have any of physical education. Many people lacking vital coordination skills and an appreciation of the importance of exercise.

Health Awareness
We offers a Medical/Health Internship Program in rural part of India to take part in our health/medical internship program within the country who are really eager to serve many unprivileged Indian people and find a great working experience in health sector in India. The interested medical students and also other general category personnel having done First-Aid-Course may get involved. In this health internship program volunteers will be involved in the Health Check up camps, Health awareness campaigning and Regular volunteer work.
