Street to School Project, Jaipur
The dream to build a school for street kids to give them a far better education and ultimately a much better future… Get Involved!
Introduction
The 'Street Children Education' project has been working towards building a school that offers free education to all children. This project is aimed at the children of lower class families that do not have the means to acquire better education for their children. Currently, Sankalp is renting a building for educational purposes in Jaipur, India. In this area, there are more than two hundred children of various ages that are not enrolled in school. Due to their extreme poverty, the parents are not capable of sending their children to school. Their families are in such great threat of hunger and starvation, that many parents engage their children in work by collecting recyclable materials from the garbage thrown out by the public in order to get by. Sankalp has encouraged these parents to bring their children to our school in order for these children to gain an education and develop their potential.
Currently Sankalp is renting a small building that can only accommodate 30 students. It is due to the size of the building that the organization hopes to raise the money necessary in order to purchase a larger building and furnishings, so that the students have a school that is conducive to learning in order to give them the best opportunity for success.
Organizational inabilities
The organization is a small unit with membership that is limited. The funds generated out of the individual contribution of its members is not worthy enough to meet the educational expenditure such as rent, electricity, water, transportation and mid day meal cost, etc. Due to the high costs, the organization is barely meeting the needs of the student body. This is why it is essential that we raise the funds to accommodate this goal.
Dream and Endeavour
In spite of financial obstacles, the organization continues its efforts in the construction of a school building where at least 100 street children could be accommodated for schooling. We as an organization hope that outside of school hours that the building will be used for adult education purposes, free medical camps, and used as a facility for local community meetings.
In order to accommodate these students, an area of 200 square yards is needed. We are looking at building a four room school-house that will accommodate 25 children per room with all the proper furnishings. An additional 100 square yards is needed to construct the remainder of the school. Twenty square yards will be used for the latrine/toilet, and store room, and the remaining area will be used for recreational purposes.
The entire project including the cost of land works out to be no less than $48,000. It is because of this high cost, that it is essential that Sankalp receives donations, and works hand in hand with supportive individuals like yourself. With your help this initiative can be a success.
