About Bangalore

Bangalore travel and tourism offers a large number of places of attraction and cultural interest. This city is also termed as the ‘Garden City of India’ and ‘Silicon Valley of India’. Located in the southern part of India, Bangalore is the capital city of Karnataka and is therefore a hub for commercial and business activities. Tourists from various parts of the world pay a visit to Bangalore throughout the year. The ideal time to visit Bangalore is during the winter season, which stretches from October to February.

Kempegowda, who was a local king, founded the city of Bangalore in the beginning of the 16th century. This city ultimately got its shape in the hands of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan.

Bangalore abounds in a large number of shopping destination, restaurants, bars, discos and lounges. Some of the major tourist attractions of Bangalore are:
 

Transportation

By Air:

Almost all major domestic airlines operate from Bangalore connecting the it to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Coimbatore, Goa, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Mangalore, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram. Bangalore is also connected to Jakarta by air with two flights scheduled in a week.

By Rail:
Bangalore is directly connected to Delhi by Rajdhani express that is one of the fastest trains. Apart from this, one can also reach Bangalore through various trains heading far south. The city is also connected to Mumbai, Kolkata, Goa, Mysore and various cities down south.

By Bus:
The city is well connected to all major cities in South and Central India through efficient, frequent and inexpensive bus services.


Tourist Places in Bangalore

Lalbagh Gardens
Haider Ali laid out the garden while Tipu Sultan added plants and trees for other countries. The place has over 1800 species of tropical, sub tropical, medicinal and floral plants. One of the four Kempe Gowda tower is located in this garden. Flower shows are organized here in Republic Day and Independence Day weeks.

Cubbon Park
It is located in the cantonment of the city. The high court state library and museums are also located here apart from fountains, bandstand and statues.
Aquarium
Located on Kasturba Gandhi road, this place has an excellent fresh water collection. A fish restaurant and fresh fish stalls surround the place.

Government Museum
Established in 1886, it is one of the oldest museums in the country. It has 18 galleries comprising of Neolithic finds from various civilizations, antique jewellery, textiles, coins, art and miniature paintings among other reserves.

Bangalore Palace
The Bangalore Palace was built by the then King of Mysore, Chamaraja Wodeyar. He bought the land from Rev. Garret and build a majestic palace on it, in 1884. The architecture represents Tudor style. The construction of this palace is inspired by the Windsor Castle of England.

Venkatappa Art Gallery
This place displays the works of painter Venkatappa, wood sculptor Rajaram, Hebbar and many others.

Bull Temple
The temple was built at Basavangudi in the Kempe Gowda period in 16th century. The monolithic Nandi bull made of grey granite polished with mixture of groundnut oil and charcoal is believed to have grown and now measures nearly 5m in height and over 6m in length.

Tipu's Summer Palace
This palace, started by Haider Ali and completed by Tipu Sultan in 1789 is a two storeyed ornate structure. Substantial woodwork and ceilings painted in bright colors and beautiful carvings add to the beauty of the place.

ISKON Temple Complex
ISKCON Temple Complex is one of the popular tourist attractions of Bangalore. Specially for the Hindu religious tourists it holds great significance. ISKCON stands for International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Founded by Srila Prabhupada in 1966, the ISKCON society's ambit has crossed the national boundaries.

Excursions from Bangalore
Bangalore offers you excellent spots to move around and enjoy for excursions. You can also choose from the various transport modes ranging from taxi drives with drivers as guides to scheduled tours. You can choose from religious sites to natural marvels for your excursion.

The gigantic Banyan Tree, the flora and fauna rich Banerghatta National Park, the picturesque Nandi Hills, the thrilling Mekadatu are just a few to name from the excursions from Bangalore.

Bannerghatta National Park provides you with a lion and tiger safari in a caged area, a crocodile and a snake farm and elephant rides. The park also harbors deer, wild boar, leopards and a good variety of birds.

Nandi Durg located at Nandi Hills was once a summer home for Tipu Sultan It is now a popular health resort for the people from the southern plains of India, especially during summers. The shimmering lake and the green valley make it a picturesque spot.
The name Mekadatu was given to the place because according to the legend, the holy river Arakavathi flows into a ravine narrow enough for a goat to leap across. Whitefield acclaimed for the Sai Baba Ashram at Brindavan also has an International Technical Park. Ayurgram is a Kerala theme resort with an ayurvedic center and a vegetarian restaurant.


Shopping in Bangalore

Shopping in Bangalore is a wonderful experience. Bangalore is a city where one would find a wide array of shopping markets, malls and plazas.There is hardly anyone who would not like to step into one of these shopping points. Shopping has always been an in thing.Some of the most well known places for the shopping freaks are the Brigade Road, Commercial Street and the MG Road. Brigade Road is full of young crowd mostly college-goers. What more than shopping in branded stores like Lee, Van Heusen, and Louis Philippe?
There are also shops available where one can get trendy shoes and junk jewelries. Besides you will get brasswares, wooden furniture, antique jewelry, printed fabrics, saris and other cool stuffs.Commercial Street is famous for shopping colorful clothes and dress materials other than fashionable jewelries. One can also look in for shoes, art supplies, travel kits, sports, etc. Westside is a very famous shopping joint.

At MG Road there are famous sari emporiums like the Deepam Silks and Prasiddhi. If you are looking out for brands, there is the Raymonds and Cotton World.
For the bookworms, Gangaram and Higgin Botham is there to help you out. Jamal's is a well-known store for buying utensils and crockeries. Besides, the shopping centers like Shrungar Shopping Complex, Barton Court, Spencer's Super Market, the Coir Board Showroom, Kids Kemp, Saree Kemp, Cauvery Arts can also be found over here.
