About Delhi
Delhi, the capital of India, is situated in northern India and stands on the west bank of Yamuna River bounded by Uttar Pardesh and on the north, west and south by Haryana. Delhi is spread over an area of 1483 sq. kilometers, 216 meters above sea level and has a population of around 14 million. The city has its historical importance for the fact that it has been the home to Mugal Empire. Delhi, as described by the famous poet Mirza Galib, is "The world is body and Delhi its soul". Apart from its historical importance, Delhi also happens to be the political hub of India, where every political activity in the country traces its roots to Delhi.
The history speaks the importance and contribution of Delhi towards developing India as a country which has left its mark on the global map today. Delhi has the most effervescent history among other prominent cities in India. Study from the Archaeological Survey of India states that Delhi was the capital of seven empires in Indian history and has over 60, 0000 recognized monuments built over several millennia.
Apart from being the political capital of India, Delhi is an important administrative unit of government of India. Major ministries of Indian government are situated in Delhi. The parliament of India - the emblem of Indian democracy - is situated in Delhi. All the major government offices and departments find their place in Delhi. In other words, it is the power house of Indian democracy which rules the nation.
Delhi has the advantage of its cosmopolitan society where there are people from every nook and corner of India. This makes the city very multi linguistic and multi cultured. Being the capital of the world's largest democracy, Delhi has embassies of more than 160 countries.

Transportation
Air: Delhi Domestic and International Airports have flights from all major countries in the world. Domestic network within India has flights form main cities across India.
Rail: Indian Railways is the main mode of transportation to different parts of India. Indian railways, with its new look and organized network is being preferred by the tourists as well. Delhi is well connected to all cities in India. You can board a train from any place in India. Railway stations in Delhi include New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station and Hazarat Nizamuddin Railway Station. Luxury trains like Fairy Queen, Palace on Wheels and Royal Orient Express depart from the Delhi Cantonment Railway Station. Other luxury trains like Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express leave the New Delhi Railway Station to major destinations across India.
Road: Roads and highways in India connect to the national capital and traveling by road is no more a difficult ride because the condition of roads has improved. Moreover, it is advisable to take a road route if you are traveling to Delhi from a distance less than 500 kms. Bus Terminals in Delhi have buses to major destinations in North India. One can find buses to important destinations across North India from Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT).
Tourist Places in Delhi
LAL QILA (RED FORT): Lal Quila also called the Red Fort is one of the most important monuments of India. It stands on the bank of river Yamuna. The whole structure is made of Red stone. The fort was built by Shahjahan - the Mughal King who also built the famous Taj Mahal - in 1648. Shahjahan called it the Uru-Mu’alla. Shahjahan shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi and Red Fort was the new capital.
LOTUS TEMPLE: Lotus Temple is one of the remarkable architectures of Bahai faith. It is located at Kalkaji in New Delhi. The temple looks like a lotus flower and is made of marble, cement, dolomite and sand. The temple has no restrictions for visitors and is open to people from all religions. The place provides immaculate environment for meditation, peace and wisdom. The Bahai temple was completed in 1986. Since then the temple has received recognition from all over the world for its splendid architecture and design. Lotus Temple is among the most visited monuments in India.
QUTUB MINAR: The tall and ever attractive monument of Delhi which can be seen from most parts of the city is called the Qutab Minar. Every body has the same question when one sees the structure for the first time. The question that is often being put up is "Why the monument is that big?" or "Was there any specific reason to build such a tall building or it was just a wish of the person who built it?" Well, the exact reason is assumed to have something related to commemorating the victory. Mughals used to build victory towers to proclaim and celebrate victories.
INDIA GATE: India Gate is situated on the Raj Path of New Delhi. India Gate was built by Edwin Lutyens to pay homage to the Indian soldiers who died in the World War I and the Afgan War. Closely looking at the walls of India Gate would let you know the names of 90,000 soldiers who died during the World War I, the Afgan War and the North-West Frontier operations. The structure was finally completed in the year 1931. India Gate was originally called the All India War Memorial.

Jaipur: Jaipur is 260 km from Delhi and forms the most chosen tourism golden triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. It a bustling capital city and a business centre with all the trapping of modern metropolis but yet flavoured strongly with an age-old charm that never fails to surprise a traveller. The old Jaipur painted in Pink can grip any visitor with admiration. Stunning backdrop of ancient forts Nahargarh, Amer, Jagarh and Moti Dungri are dramatic testimonials of the bygone era and a reminder of their lingering romance.
Agra: Agra was once the capital of the Mughal empire and even today it seems to linger in the past . Not surprising , for the Mughal emperors with their passion for building, endowed the city with some of the finest structures in the world . It is very easy to slip away here through the centuries into the grandeur and intrigues of the Mughal court.
Mathura: widely known as birth place of lord Krishna is located on the western bank of river Yamuna at latitude 27degree 41 Minute N and 77Degree and 41 Minuet E. It is 145 Km south-east of Delhi and 58 Km north west of Agra in the State of Uttar Pradesh. For about 3000 Year it was the hub of culture and civilization.
Bharatpur: The legends say that the place was named as Bharatpur after the name of Bharat, the brother of Lord Rama, whose other brother Laxman was worshipped as the family deity of the Bharatpur rulers, Laxman's name is engraved onthe state arms and the seals. The city and the fort have been believed to be founded by Rustam, a Jat of Sogariya clan. Maharaja Surajmal took over from Khemkaran, the son of Rustam and established the empire. He fortified the city by building a massive wall around the city.

Ansal Plaza

Chandni Chowk
The various markets of Delhi are interesting for having their own distinctive ambience and flavor. In Old Delhi, the congested and most densely populated market of Chandni Chowk has survived for more than three centuries. Strewn richly with historical landmarks, this shopping area has shops, which are more than 100 years old.
Connaught Place
Connaught Place, the horseshoe-shaped market of New Delhi, was designed by Robert Tor Russell and W H Nicholls. It was named after the Duke of Connaught, a member of the British royal family. It was the largest of its kind in India at that time.

Sarojini Nagar is located in the posh South locality of Delhi. Also known as SN, Sarojini Nagar is one of the most sought after places in New Delhi, from where one can buy clothes and fabrics.
